Unit 1 Reflection

Philosophies of Online Teaching and Learning

Description:

Our weekly objective this week was to get an understanding of how to incorporate TPACK ( Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) into our teaching methods. This week we were presented with the fact that technology doesn't teach students to learn, but how we utilized that technology and incorporate different teaching strategies will. Strategies that include different learning styles and activities were mentioned several times throughout our required readings.

Impact:

I consider myself a lifelong online learner, I have seen the very best techniques used and some of the worst. The impact that this weeks reading has had on me was to validate what I have known, that each student has a different mode of learning and needs to be address individually. The online world with its vast resources can and will accommodate more students much easier then face to face, but we can not allow ourselves to fall into the mindset that makes us feel that a computer will teach our subject. " Telling is not Teaching", Technology are just tools that we can use to create an environment that promotes learning and keeps our students interested and motivated.

Intent:

I will continue to evaluate the technical tools that I have at my disposal and will marry them up with my lesson plans to create a better experience for my students. I also recognize that technology is ever-changing and will make it a point to discipline myself to stay on top of new educational technology.
